Who comes to mind when you hear the word "king"? Some may think of Elvis or perhaps Henry VIII or King Arthur. Many kings have been egotistical tyrants. King David was perhaps the greatest king that ever ruled. He was described as "a man after God's heart".
God promised that through the lineage of David would come one whose reign would last forever. Isaiah prophesied of this king – "Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. His government and peace will never end. He wants to rule with equity and justice from the throne of David his father for all eternity "(Isaiah 9:6-7 NIV).
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem Magi followed his star to Jerusalem. They asked King Herod, where the newborn king of the Jews would be born. (Matthew 2:1-6) Jesus was born into this world to be a prophet, priest and king. It was the prophesied "Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace".
When Jesus began his public ministry with miracles, signs and wonders the crowd wanted to immediately make him king. In the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on a donkey the crowd hailed him as king. This prophecy fulfilled. (Isaiah 62:11, Matthew 21:1-11)
Several parables Jesus taught about the kings and the kingdom of God. In Matthew 22:1-14 a king prepared a wedding banquet prepared for your child. He sent the many wedding invitations to the party, but very few responded. How like today, when the Heavenly Father many calls to the party salvation and the kingdom of heaven through His Son, but many refuse to accept your invitation.
When Jesus was arrested by the leaders religious trial, Pilate, the Roman governor, asked if it was true he was a king. Jesus did not deny, but said, "My kingdom is not an earthly kingdom. . . My kingdom is not of this world "(John 18:36). Kingdom of Jesus begins in the hearts of men. When Jesus was crucified, Pilate made a sign of the cross which read:" Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews ". It was written in three languages. Religious leaders wanted Pilate for the sign down, but said," What I have written, written. "Are you among those who deny Jesus as Lord and Savior?
I remember an old gospel song, "Who am I that a king bleed and die? Who am I that he would say, 'Not my will but yours be done "to? The answer we'll never know. Why why he never loved me well, but at an Old Rugged Cross I'd go for who I am? "
On the cross Jesus cried "It is finished." Christ accomplished his purpose of coming to this earth. He truly is the prophet, priest and king. He demonstrated that arise from the dead the third day, victorious over death, hell and the grave. The king is back, this time riding a white horse, followed by the armies of heaven who dress in white. In his head were many diadems and on His thigh is written, "King of Kings and Lord of Lords" (Revelation 19:11-16). "Every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord "(Philippians 2:6-11).
Yes, Jesus is the prophet, priest and king. Has Lord and Savior of your life? "If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved "(Romans 10:9).
