In a dry river in the eastern desert of Egypt, carvings and inscriptions dating to 4000 BC can be found. The site marks the pyroglyph painted only in the eastern desert, and drawings of Egyptian reed boats found on the walls are some of the earliest to be discovered. Attractions, since these are well worth visiting on a holiday in Egypt, since the mark the first signs of writing.

The legend of the Sphinx

The Great Sphinx of Giza is perhaps one of the most iconic representations of ancient Egypt, and a vacation to Egypt, would be incomplete without paying this marvel of a visit. This famous statue of a reclining lion with a human head is the largest monolith in the world. It is also the oldest monument, and is commonly believed that the work of civilizations dating from the third millennium BC.

This statue is a great show in sight, with its majestic head facing east due, and a small temple located between the legs. Its development is something of an enigma to historians, with nothing but theories as to how and when it occurred. Most historians support the theory that was created by Kharfa Pharaoh in about 2500 BC, but there is little agreement as to who represents the face.

A fantastic day during the stay on holiday in Egypt is a trip to the headquarters of the Sphinx, with a look at a civilization that dates back almost 5000 years.

A visit to the pyramids

Along with the Sphinx, Egypt Pyramids is associated with high silhouette of a backdrop of a desert camel-spotting. There are over one hundred pyramids in Egypt. The first to be built is the Pyramid of Djoser, the archaeological remains found in the necropolis Saqqora. The pyramid dates from the century 27 BC, and was built for the burial of Pharaoh Djoser.

The most famous pyramids are located on the outskirts of Cairo, Giza. The largest of these pyramids is the Pyramid of Cheops, which is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world still in existence.

The mosques and Modern Cities

The Egyptian capital, Cairo, is a vibrant city that offers a more modern experience, while on holiday in Egypt. With the Cairo Opera House and Khedivial Casas, the International Film Festival Cairo and a series of evening activities in the city, not short of entertainment.

Located in this dynamic city is the Mosque of Mohammed Ali, a modern mosque built in the 19th century. It is a very impressive to watch as the great dome and minarets add an oriental touch to the skyline of Cairo. Mohammed Ali destroyed Mamluk palaces, and built this great mosque as a tribute to himself instead. The mosque houses the body of Mohammed Ali.

The dome is 52 meters high, with small circles of lights hanging from its center and points around the room, creating an internal light show. Downtown Cairo and a visit to the modern mosque is the perfect complement to an exploration of ancient civilizations, while on holiday in Egypt.
