Persian rugs can be classified into Persian City Rugs and Persian tribal rugs. Each type within these two is typically the name of the city or the name of the tribe in which it is manufactured and designed. These are some of the most popular Persian rugs (the first four coming in the city of Persian carpets)

Afshar Rugs: These are generally designed rugs with geometric motifs. Multiple connected medallions in diamond shape, All About farangi Gul (roses) botehs, and chicken-like motifs (Afshar-e-Morghi) are the common designs. The colors are dark red, reddish brown, dark reddish brown-blue, dark blue, burnt orange, ocher, and camel. Tabriz Rugs: Most of the designs are geometric curvilinear but also found. The symmetric (Turkish) knot is common with multiple colors used on a carpet, and very different from the palette. Kashan carpet common colors are dark blue background, rich red, beige and ivory. Other colors such as red, blue, turquoise, brown, beige, white, brown and occasionally used for green designs.

Kerman Rugs: These are also mostly in the curvilinear pattern. They are famous for pictograms Kerman, which fall in the pictorial category of pattern. Kerman Traditional designs include all-over floral boteh, striped panels garden, prayer, vase, garden, hunting, animals, and pictographs using themes of both Gulf and Europe, etc. are to Aubusson Modern versions or Koran (Quran) medallion and corners with an open field. Rich red, red-blue, ivory, lime green, pink, gray-blue, turquoise, orange, champagne and beige are some commonly used colors.

Baluch Rugs: These rugs are handwoven by nomadic people of the tribe of Baluchistan in southern Iran, following a Persian tradition old, dating back to 2500 years. The design is unique, with a general pattern, with burgundy with some navy and ivory as the main colors.

Shiraz Rugs: Hand-woven carpets in Shiraz, Central Iran, crudely done by simply done with the long hair cut with flat color schemes. Geometric patterns, small animals or plants are commonly used in designs with stitching done with a barber pole effect with two colors. Red is the color most used.

Wiss Rugs: These handmade tribal rugs from the village of Wiss, near Hamedan, Iran. Traditional forms of dense flowers with vases, foliage, palms, and garden elements are in common use. Dark shade of red or burgundy is the main color. Wiss rugs are known for their resemblance to Arak and Tabriz designs.
